Greetings Grade Nine's!
Miss Rybinski is away with the Grade 7's and 8's on a Science field trip this morning. Your assignment for this class is posted below.

Grade Nine Lesson:

Copy and paste questions into a word document and answer in full sentences. Do not rush through your work – please provide as much information as you can – take the opportunity to learn.

Choose a rock band, funk band, jazz band, marching band, symphony orchestra, etc. that YOUR band instrument is used in.

(IE. Flute = Brecker Brothers, Saxophone = San Francisco Jazz Collection, Trumpet = Five Alarm Funk, Bass Guitar = The Mingus Big Band (Charles Mingus), Drumset = The Buddy Rich Big Band)

Please write a brief study on the band of your choice answering the following questions:

1.      How long has your band of choice been performing/touring/writing? Are they still together?

2.      What style of music does your band of choice perform/write/tour with?

3.      Who are the members of your band of choice?

4.      What is the instrumentation? (What instruments are used in your band? ex. Bass, guitar, drums, piano, maracas, zither, synthesizer and vocals)

5.      Who is the instrumentalist that plays your instrument in your band of choice?

6.      What is a well-known song by the band?

7.      Has the band won any prestigious awards such as a Juno Award, Grammy Award, Academy Award, or Billboard Award?

8.      Who are your band of choice’s INFLUENCES (who inspired the musicians in your band of choice?) (ie. Miss Rybinski’s influences include J.J. Johnson, John Legend, Regina Spektor, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans)

Hello Level 1 Band! It's Thursday – that means one more day until the weekend for you!
Your assignment for today is to RESEARCH the history of your instrument, focusing on how it was and currently is manufactured or made. Please copy the following questions into a NEW Microsoft Word Document and place your answer below each question. Save your document as "LAST NAME, FIRST LETTER OF FIRST NAME: Instrument History Assignment"
1. Which instrument family is your instrument part of? (For percussionists you will have more than one instrument - choose only ONE percussion instrument please)
2. What other types or variations of your instrument exists? (ie. Snare drum variation = field drum, Trumpet = Slide trumpet, etc.).
3. How is your instrument made or manufactured? (I don’t need an entire essay, just the main manufacturing details J )
